Ariel and Ark are among the early parties seeking to raise funds for opportunistic vehicles to support cat underwriting for 2023, as reinsurers prepare for a sharply dislocated market, this publication can reveal.

Sources said that Ariel has engaged with private equity around the raising of a ~$300mn sidecar, which will draw support from existing backers JC Flowers and Jim Stanard’s Pelican.
