The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has declared the widespread damage caused by ex-tropical cyclone Jasper, which has already generated more than 3,800 claims across areas stretching from Cape York Peninsula to Mackay, as an insurance catastrophe.

As a result of the catastrophe declaration, the ICA said it will be prioritising claims for affected policyholders across Far North Queensland.
