Life ILS managers face headwinds from market losses estimated at ~$700mn

The life ILS segment has taken losses amounting to ~$700mn over the past 12 months according to estimates from market sources, as deals have unravelled across lapse risk as well as life and health credit — coming as the industry’s second-largest life ILS manager halts new business.

The consensus of loss estimates for the segment in aggregate was in the range of $500mn-$900mn across several sources, with the lowest at $500mn up to an outer edge of $1bn.
