Universal: Idalia severity ‘considerably smaller than initially anticipated’

Universal said its losses from Hurricane Idalia would fall within its reinsurance retention, as severity from the storm appeared “considerably smaller than initially anticipated”.

This came as the insurer reported a narrower Q3 underwriting loss of 110.7%, down 28.5 points from 139.2% the prior year quarter.
