China issues warning as super typhoon approaches Hong Kong

China issued a typhoon red warning, its highest possible warning for such an event, at 06:00 local time on Thursday morning as Super Typhoon Saola headed towards Hong Kong and the Guangdong province.

According to media reports, Saola’s windspeed is around 200 km/h (125 mph) and is roughly 315 km (183 miles) southeast of Guangdong, a major manufacturing hub.
