The sudden, dramatic uptick in insurance lawsuits brought in Florida in March was the “last hurrah of a dying cottage industry” ahead of the enactment of the state’s tort reforms, according to HCI.

The Floridian carrier’s CEO, Paresh Patel, said the deluge of 280,122 lawsuits in March – 126.9% higher than the previous record of May 2021 – was the litigation sector’s last attempt to profit from the state’s insurers.
