Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) has kept its forecast for an above-normal hurricane season a day ahead of the official start of the season, pointing to several environmental factors that could increase the chance of a turbulent autumn.

It maintained its predictions for 18 named storms, including eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes.

That compares with the 1991-2020 30-year norms of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
