Aon has noted that a rare derecho that impacted densely populated metropolitan areas in Canada on 21 May could rank among the country’s top five most costly severe convective storm events for insured losses.

The broker’s Weekly Cat Report for 19-24 May added that the event could end up ranking among Canada’s most costly insured loss events on record, regardless of peril.
