Byron Bay’s central business district has been hit by destructive flooding after 200mm-300mm of rain fell in the space of a few hours, Australia’s ABC News has reported.

Dozens of shops in the town centre were affected by water up to a metre deep as drains were unable to cope with the volume of rain.
