ILS offerings have 'not gone exactly to plan': Markel

Markel said in its annual letter to investors that its ILS activity has “not gone exactly to plan”, but maintained that it “operate[s] the leading platform in the ILS industry” and is a “better, broader and more attractive insurance partner” for clients as a result.

The company entered the ILS sector by buying CatCo in 2015, fronting insurer State National in 2017 and Nephila in 2018.
