Claims stemming from the flooding that hit southeast Queensland and New South Wales in Australia have risen by 28% from Friday’s claims count, with estimated current claims costs now standing at A$1.3bn ($1bn), according to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).

The ICA said it has now received 86,703 claims relating to the floods, while the 28% increase on Friday’s claims count is driven by a 49% increase in the number of claims from New South Wales as policyholders return...
