Reinsurers knew that they wouldn’t be able to renew retro cover in full this year but Gallagher Re’s chairman international of reinsurance James Vickers said that expectation management was not “handled all that well” by some retro writers.

“A number of people found themselves with less retro cover or more expensive retro cover than they had planned,” he noted.
