The retro sector remains “paralysed” as broader 1 January reinsurance renewals also continue to stall, with just one landmark retro deal done six weeks after the point where early deals would usually have wrapped up.

This replicates a broader stalemate on catastrophe reinsurance renewals that is leading nerves to fray in the run-up to 1 January, with just two working weeks left after this weekend until the Christmas break.
