S&P has maintained a negative outlook on the global reinsurance sector for 2022, saying that reinsurers have struggled to earn cost of capital in 2021 and the same trend could repeat again next year.

Of the various categories of ratings assigned to the 21 top global reinsurers, 29% were negative, 62% were stable and just 9% were in the positive camp.
