ILW volumes dented only slightly by retro cat bond trend

The rise of index-based retro cat bonds have had a limited impact on volumes of ILW trading this year, according to several industry sources who said that the investor base for the two markets remained distinct.

In the past 18 months, new cedants that have raised retro cover from the cat bond market include Fidelis, Brit, Arch, Hannover Re, Convex, Vantage and Ariel Re.
