Insurers increase loss estimate for Louisiana hurricanes by 25% to $9.6bn

Insurers have increased cost estimates for the three hurricanes that struck Louisiana by 25% since the end of last year, according to Jim Donelon, commissioner for the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI).

Insurance companies now expect to pay $9.6bn on claims of all types, up from $7.7bn at the end of last year.
