NOAA revises hurricane season average for past active decade

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has revised its baseline for an average hurricane season, which now includes storm activity from the last past 30 years as its reference.

Previously, the agency used the years between 1981 and 2010 as its long-term baseline, with 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes as its average benchmark.
