Apollo Syndicate Management has appointed James Slaughter as group chief underwriting officer, replacing Nick Burkinshaw, who is retiring.

Slaughter, a former senior Liberty Mutual executive, spent last year working on plans for a start-up insurer, but the intention to launch the business – Lavant – at 1 January was put on hold in November.
